An essential training course for both EY Practitioners new to the SENCo role and experienced EY SENCos wishing to update their knowledge and skills. Practitioners who undertake this training may choose to build on these 2 days which form the initial part of the accredited Level 3 National
EY SENCo Award.
This two day course focuses on sharing quality, inclusive practice within the delivery of the EYFS framework and the SEND Code of Practice. It also provides opportunities for participants to focus on areas of development within their own settings. The course will cover:
• Understanding the role of the EY SENCo
• An insight into the SEND Code of Practice
• Somerset’s approach to early years, SEND and statutory practices
• Opportunities for sharing good practice with other EY SENCos

Welcome to the Support Services for Early Years (SSEY) website.
Support Services for Early Years is a part of Support Services for Education (SSE)
SSE is a traded unit within Somerset County Council that offers a wide variety of support services to all education providers, including Schools, Academies, Further Education Colleges, Early Years Providers, Childcare Settings, Local Authorities and other establishments. As a public sector trading unit we provide the right balance between public sector ethos and commercial practice.
Here at SSE we have no financial shareholders and operate a not for profit business model, any surplus that we generate is reinvested to improve outcomes for children and young people. This ensures that we deliver great value services that are continually improving.
We are committed to making a difference to children and young people and were shortlisted for the Local Government Chronicle's Team of the Year Award 2016.

NEW Statutory EYFSP Moderation Package
Statutory EYFSP Moderation is the responsibility of the geographical LA for all schools and settings in Somerset LA. This includes maintained schools, independent schools, academies and early years providers such as, nurseries and childminders.
The aim of Somerset LA is to provide a supportive process over the course of the academic year so that all schools and settings know and understand the statutory responsibilities as cascaded yearly to the LA by the Standards and Testing Agency (STA) and how the LA plan to carry out the statutory requirements.
Following evaluations at moderation events in 2016 to 2017, our vision is to create a moderation model that ensures all schools are involved in the process over the course of the academic year.
New for 2017/18-
Membership:Schools can either become a member of the Somerset process for a £50 membership fee or access events as non-members.
Free access to all training events and clusters for first staff member and at a reduced price to additional staff members (unless otherwise stated).
