The Role of the Early Years SENCO

Outline

An essential training course for both EY Practitioners new to the SENCo role and experienced EY SENCos wishing to update their knowledge and skills. Practitioners who undertake this training may choose to build on these 2 days which form the initial part of the accredited Level 3 National EY SENCo Award.

Description

This two day course focuses on sharing quality, inclusive practice within the delivery of the EYFS framework and the SEND Code of Practice. It also provides opportunities for participants to focus on areas of development within their own settings. The course will cover:
  • Understanding the role of the EY SENCo
  • An insight into the SEND Code of Practice
  • Somerset’s approach to early years, SEND and statutory practices
  • Opportunities for sharing good practice with other EY SENCos

Outcomes

Participants will gain knowledge, skills and confidence to enable them to:
  • ensure all practitioners in their setting understand their responsibilities to children with SEN and the setting’s approach to identifying and meeting SEN
  • advise and support colleagues
  • ensure parents are at the centre of SEND processes
  • liaise with professionals or agencies beyond the setting

Participants may wish to continue their professional development by pursuing the National Level 3 EY SENCo Award and these 2 days would be recognised as part of that accredited training.
